Overview of the Tea Factory
王和香茶厂位于江西省九江市狮山乡交界的大王山之上，四面环山，地势相对封闭。茶厂距狮山乡政府约 2 公里，距都昌县城约 32 公里，交通并不便利，尤其在雨季，道路泥泞，出入困难。茶厂周边分布着 69 座自然村，包括雁塘下、厦屋村、张家山、肖家畈、武家咀、芗涧垄、白水塘、舍里、长垄、景昭村、于茂垄、董家山、毛港村、洪玉咀、卢家村等，总计约5100多户，总人口约20700人。这些村落大多沿山而建，人口居住分散，以小规模家庭农业为主，茶叶是当地为数不多的经济作物和现金收入来源。
King & Song Tea Factory is located on Dawang Mountain at the border of Shishan Township, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, China. The factory is surrounded by hills. It is about 2 kilometers from the Shishan Township government and about 32 kilometers from Duchang County. Transportation is not very convenient, especially during the rainy season when the roads become muddy and difficult to pass. Around the tea factory there are 69 natural villages, including Yantangxia, Xiawu Village, Zhangjiashan, Xiaojiapan, Wujiajui, Xiangjianlong, Baishuitang, Sheli, Changlong, Jingzhao Village, Yumaolong, Dongjiashan, Maogang Village, Hongyujui, and Lujia Village. Altogether there are about 5,100 households with a total population of about 20,700. Most of these villages are built along the mountains, with people living far apart. Small-scale family farming is the main livelihood, and tea is one of the few cash crops and sources of income in this area.
茶厂分布在丘陵和山坡地带，土壤为红色土壤，土层虽深厚肥沃，但由于坡度较大，耕作以手工为主，机械化程度很低，劳动条件较为艰苦。全年的平均气温 17.1℃，降雨量的1480毫米，无霜期262天，气候适宜茶叶生长。
The tea factory is located on hills and slopes. The soil is red soil, deep and fertile, but because of the steep slopes, most work is done by hand. The level of mechanization is very low, and the labor conditions are hard. The area has an annual average temperature of 17.1 °C, about 1,480 mm of rainfall, and 262 frost-free days, which makes it suitable for tea growing.
茶厂所在地狮山乡经济基础薄弱，大部分家庭依赖季节性务工维持生计。村民收入普遍偏低，年轻劳动力大量外出打工，留守的多是年长女性，她们承担了大量采茶、修剪、除草等繁重体力劳动。
The local economy of Shishan Township is weak. Most families rely on seasonal work to make a living. Incomes are generally low, and many young people leave to work in other places. Most of the people who stay are older women, and they do most of the heavy farm work such as tea picking, pruning, and weeding.
茶厂不仅是当地茶叶加工的重要场所，也成为这些留守女工少有的稳定就业机会，为她们提供了现金收入，但工资水平仍较低，难以完全改善家庭的经济状况。整体而言，这里既有优良的自然资源，也有突出的发展困境，是典型的经济贫弱乡村。
The tea factory is not only an important place for processing local tea but also one of the few stable jobs for these women. It gives them some cash income, but the wages are still low and cannot fully improve the family’s financial situation. Overall, this area has good natural resources but faces serious development challenges. It is a typical example of a rural area with limited economic strength.
